Before: These Chairs have fabulous lines, but a not such a fabulous color. The cream striped seat cushions were also worn, faded, and in need of replacing. I repainted 8 of these chairs for a doctor’s office here in Austin. This office uses these chairs in their main waiting and consultation areas, so they needed to hold up to high traffic as well as remain cleanable.
The client wanted a more opaque coverage, and only a tiny amount of distressing to show off the highlights of the reliefs.
After: These chairs now have a smooth, opaque coverage of Heirloom Traditions Chalk Paint in Black Bean, with minimal highlighting on the reliefs only, two solid coats of Heirloom Traditions Clear Soft Wax, with extra coats on the high-traffic areas for protection. The seat cushions are a faux leather grain called Rich San Fran Caramel from JoAnn Fabrics.
Minimal distressing on the reliefs. Usually, Clients want more distressing, but I enjoyed how these revealed themselves with a single gold rose relief, a little gold reveal on the harp back, and a small leaf on the top of each front leg just below the seat cushion.
I just adore how the black finish glows. It reminds me of an antique black oiled machine, stove, or sewing machine. Such a lovely, rich look!
THOSE chairs are gorgeous! So impressed with your work and the website. TOP NOTCH for sure:)
Thank you so much for your kind words, Kim! Such a blessing!
